About Platte County, MO
Platte County, MO is the place that was born thanks to the labor and joint efforts of countless men.
Currently, Platte County, MO is shared by six centers in the United States, its location could not be more central than this. However, a total area of 427 square miles was not always what this city looked like.
Although founded many years later, the settlements in the area of Platte County, MO date back to the 19th century. It was then when the government started issuing permissions for settlers to reside there.
The land was mainly inhabited by the Indian people, who enjoyed the nature of the land that would eventually become Platte County, MO. The territory was particularly desirable because of the rivers and tributaries around the area.
The first white settler of what we know as Platte County, MO was a man named Zadoc Martin, and he was granted permission to live in the area in 1827 near the Platte River.
The aboriginal claim to the land was abolished in 1837, 10 years after Martin had settled in the land. That part of the region, today known as Platte County, MO, was connected to Clay. After this first settlement, immigrants flowed into the zone because of what the land had to offer.
Some years after, in 1840, the first churches were built for the new settlers to practice their religious beliefs.
A year after the Indian title was eliminated, the county was organized and the people of Platte County, MO held their first court in a little cabin. It is then when they decided to name the city after the river.
It wasn’t long after that Platte County, MO started growing at an unstoppable rate. The prosperity was largely due to the fertile lands that drove the agriculture and farming on the land. In 1844 there were some hardships to overcome. However, after they passed, Platte County, MO kept on developing until transforming into what we know today.
The community was in need of education for their future generations, this is why the first public school was built in 1868, and many more would follow in time. One year after this event, the railroad added it to the list of destinations.
By 1871, the city already had a telephone line installed and a well organized mail delivery service. One year later, Platte County, MO was officially divided into 13 townships.
The city of Platte County, MO ended up turning into a commercial center. Shipments of hemp and tobacco accounted for the immense economic growth of the region.
