About Lenexa, KS
Lenexa is a large city in Johnson County. It is surrounded by other suburbs of Kansas City and in many respects has a common infrastructure with them. Lenexa was created in 1907 on the site of the J. B. Hickok estate, which existed since 1858. The etymology of the city's name is associated with the simplified spelling of the name of the wife of the Shawnee chief T. Blackhoof.
The population census in Lenexa has been conducted since 1910. Since the fourth decade of the XX century, the number of inhabitants has been steadily increasing. Moreover, the population growth rate from 1950 to 2000 was never below 60%. So, in 1960, the census showed an increase in the population by 212 %, and in 1980 - by 255 %. Thus, the former small town turned into a large suburb of Kansas City. By the number of inhabitants, Lenexa ranks eighth in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.
The financial stability of the city's residents is beyond doubt. Although the per capita income is close to the state average, only 3% of the city's residents are below the poverty line.
