About Olathe, KS

In 1857 is when Olathe was founded. And when it reached1868, it became an official state. It's considered to be among the oldest towns which are found in the county of Johnson. The exact location of Olathe is at Santa Fe Trail and that of California and Oregon.

Olathe grew to have theSanta Fe Trails stop that was considered very significant in the area. The place received around six hundred wagons, which traveled from Olathe and headed to the West's goldfields, where there were farming settlements.

In 1863, the first settlers of Olathe were the Mahaffie family, who decided to have a stagecoach stop, which they would run on a farm that was 570 acres. In 1866, a school for the deaf that was built in Kansas got relocated to Olathe because of the new stagecoach. Four years on, a railroad reached Olathe due to the attraction of the stage stop's business that had become obsolete. There was a boom in Olathe at the time. More than sixty buildings were being erected in the area. Three railroads were also constructed, and a Depot called Santa Fe. By 1885, the population in Olathe had rapidly grown to reach three thousand.

In 1907, Kansas City became connected to the city of Olathe via an open line called Strang Trolley. It was a trolley car that was powered by gas and electricity. This first machine in Olathe was considered very profitable when used at the railroads constructed in the inter-urban areas. Interstate Highway 35 was also built in 1957, which caused an acceleration in the rise of Olathe's economy. Three years later, the town's population had risen from ten thousand to thirty-eight thousand people in 1980.

Renewal of Urbanization in Olathe had started taking place in 1967. The aim of urban renewal was very profitable, but no leverage would maximize any developments that were done privately. It only emphasized the growth of suburban areas and not in the downtown sites. There was the construction of the Avenue Hotel, Ernie Miller, Hyer Boot building, and Hotel Olathe, among many more razed.

Santa Fe became widened in 1971. Four lanes were built during the urban renewal, while the previous ones got demolished. Also there was demolition of the other parts that were found in the old neighborhoods. Construction plans continued in 1973, where the was a complete construction of a new city hall. A recent post office and library were also built-in in 1978.

The completion of the previous enhancement of Olathe happened in 1996. The town's original area got revitalized, and a foundation got laid with a plan being put for the construction of the Olathe neighborhood. The Plan directed to the Neighbourhood of Westview and the Central Core. They we're developed first in their previous sites. The plans that were meant for the downtown part of the city were achieved in 1998 through a consulting firm that became hired to ensure the Park Study's completion took effect at the Central Business District. The envisioned Plan for the Downtown part of Olathe city was completed in 2002. It offered the towns several revitalization strategies that would make the area become a city.

The U.S. Census Bureau stated in 2008 that Olathe had become of the fastest cities that were growing in the country. It was ranked in the same year by Money Magazine and CNN as the 11th best city one can live in across the United States.

In 2017, racial statements were made by Adam Purinton, which resulted in an open fire from the crowds in the Grill and Austin Bars that we're found in the south areas of the city. People shot each other, and others got injured. The following became internationally known, but justice was found for the tragedy.

Apartments in Olathe were upscaled during the 19thcentury and the project is still ongoing. Many other projects were expanded through the county government as demolition was on going. Changes were done even to the historic house, which was considered to be a tourism site. It included the Hubbard House, which was known in 1887 as the Greek Revival landmark. In 2018 January, it was demolished, and a petition got signed about the place by six thousand residents. Several artifacts were found at the site that included the claw foot and grandfather clock displayed at the clubhouse apartment.
