About Overland Park, KS
The history of Overland Park is not too old. In the 1900s the area was used as a roadway by military transport. Mr. William Strang, in 1905 started developing the plots alongside a very large area of the road, and it was a start-up of Overland Park. Later, in May 1960 the city was officially recognized as a first-class city, having a population of 28,085 people.
In the next 3-4 decades, the rapid growth of population took place throughout US suburban areas. As a consequence, Overland Park was recognized as the second-largest city in Kansas State in the early 2000s. The city is under the administrative authority of Johnson County & the most populous city.
Overland Park is located on the northeast side of Kansas. The city is situated just on the north side of the Osage Plains, south of the Kansas River, and one of its branches passes between the northern city areas. Interestingly, a major portion of the city is located in the watershed of Blue River, and several river distributaries run across all sides of Overland Park.
The demographic distribution of Overland Park indicates a population density of 2,316 persons per square mile, with a total of 173,372 people (2010). In the same period, a count of 1,019 housing units existed at each square mile radius.
