About Raytown, MO
Raytown is a city in the Middle Eats located on the territory of the former Indian tribes. The area of Raytown was originally settled by the Osage Indians. Development of this land began in the 1820s and developed into a settlement as a stopover on the Santa Fe Trail. The development of the road network and the opening of the Santa Fe Trail led to an increase in the number of people living in this area and Raytown in particular. Raytown was a staging post for westbound travelers and adventurers. This prompted the development of cattle pastures in the region and the cultivation of fruit and vegetables for sale to travelers. Then came the need for gear production and blacksmiths, wagon makers and other craftsmen started coming to the town.
The growing number of travelers on the trail required the development of infrastructure and William Ray around 1848, established his workshop. He owned a blacksmith shop and a shop. The shop gained fame with travelers of the time and was a kind of dignity. By 1850 William Ray's blacksmith shop was already firmly established in the town center. In 1860, on popular demand, the authorities paved a new road to Kansas City and Independence, now called Raytown Road. And so William Ray's shop, like William Ray himself, became the center of attraction in the city. At the time, it was not uncommon for residents themselves to refer to the town as 'Raytown' and then as 'Raytown'. He died on 18 August 1874. To commemorate him, a monument has been erected on the site of his blacksmith shop today.
According to historical records, in 1872, Raytown had one shop and saddlery, one meeting house, a post office, one blacksmith shop, a Masonic Hall, a doctor's office, and a schoolhouse. Farmers in the county sold pork, corn, and other produce to travelers. Some residents offered their homes for lodgers. One of the favorite campsites belonged to Archibald Rice. Another favorite camping spot was Jesse Barnes' farm, also known as Cave Springs.
Jackson County lands were eagerly purchased, including for building farms. During the Civil War, all the residents went off to war and life ceased for six years. This did not go away, it took many years to restore the former standard of living and production. From 1877 until the 1930s, agriculture and animal husbandry were the main sources of income for the community. In 1900, Raytown was still a community of farmers and entrepreneurs. At the same time, the town had several industrial enterprises. The first official post office appeared in 1871. Reverend J. J. Robinson became the first postmaster, and his shop provided space for a post office.
With the development of the railway, the railway came to Raytown in 1903. Air travel began in Raytown in 1922. Immediately after construction, the airport was taken over by the US Army. The airport was used to train army pilots during the Second World War. The planes were then used to pollinate crops. The history of the airport ended in 1952. The airport was closed and its land was transferred to the city on which houses were built.
In 1926, Raytown MO had 450 residents, the town had well-paved roads and had a good tourist flow. The residents' favorite recreational spots were Wildwood Lakes, in Cave Springs, the Nile Racecourse, and Sunday entertainment was the stunt shows at Richard's flying field. Raytown grew as did the demand for new houses and elements of infrastructure: schools, churches, etc.
Raytown, Missouri is located next to Kansas City. In the 1940s, Kansas City needed to expand, and the main way of expansion was through annexation. Raytown itself was not officially called Raytown despite the unofficial nickname for its town by the locals. The residents of Raytown had no say in the annexation of Raytown to Kansas City. The residents of Raytown MO were proud of their community and did not want to give up their independence.
In 1950, Raytown received official city status. The area of the district was two square miles and the population was 1,000. Homeowners in the areas around the new town petitioned to be included in the town. In 1961, Raytown was over ten square miles and had a population of about 3,000.
After incorporation, Raytown had no place to conduct city business, and many residents used their homes and basements for this purpose. In 1975 the new Raytown Town Hall was built. By then about 33,000 people lived in Raytown MO.
Raytown has come a long way from large young families to the elderly, from plantations to housing estates, from southern farmers to commuters.
